5 Reasons to Consider a Compost Tumbler
You know that using composting is good for both your wallet and the environment. You’ve heard all the talk about the miracles it seems to produce with growing your own plants and veggies. But composting takes time and patience. It doesn’t happen overnight. There are a lot little things you have to keep in mind and things that can go wrong. That’s where a compost tumbler comes into play. Here are are five good reasons you should consider buying or building your own tumbler…
Ongoing supply of only the best…
A compost tumbler will keep your compost regularly rotating, which is a must if you want it to ‘mature’ quicker. The best compost comes from the center of the pile and by consistently turning it you consistently have the best, freshest compost at your disposal. Without a tumbler, you’d have to constantly be stirring and rotating before you get to the good compost, which is both time-consuming and tedious.
Just the right amount of moisture…
Sure, you want your compost to have a bit of moisture, but if it gets too wet then it will lose its effectives (and peueee… talk about stinky!). With a compost tumbler you don’t have to worry about it. They retain the moisture that you want to keep, while keeping out extra moisture and rain water so it doesn’t get too wet.
Easy wheelbarrow use…
If you don’t foresee using all of the compost at once much often then look for one with a side door. These tumblers make it very easy to take a portion of the compost out and load into your wheelbarrow for easy distribution. Of course, if you do think you’ll be emptying out the tumbler all at once often then you might want to look for one that rolls along the ground to distribute the compost. Either way, there’s a model that makes it easy. You just have to pick the right one.
Limited infestations…
If you don’t use a tumbler you’re going to have a heck of a time keeping out garden pests. But if you invest in (or build) a tumbler that sits up off of the ground then you can quickly eliminate the majority of possible infestations.
Nice-n-Tidy…
If you’re like me, you have a bit of a tidiness infatuation. Without a tumbler, it’s hard to keep compost piles looking neat and tidy, let alone keeping it from being scattered from pests or weather. A tumbler lets you control the look of the area and ensures you always have nice-n-tidy compost pile.
